Our research projects are largely motivated by the deep analogy between wave propagation and general relativity. This analogy allows one to build and study cosmological events in the laboratory with table top experiments. At the same time, these projects lead us along unexpected paths and towards the development of new and exciting technologies.
One example is the study of new materials such as metamaterials and 2D materials that allow us to control the flow of light with unprecendented precision.
We are also using single-photon counting techniques to create remarkable new cameras that can create images with such high temporal resolution that we can freeze light in motion. This research is part of the UK Quantum Imaging Hub, QuantIC and is pushing the boundaries of what we know and what we can do with light.
